When Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area, the Texas T1D community banded together. In the middle of the outreach was American Association of Diabetes Educators 2018 Diabetes Educator of the Year, Dr. Stephen Ponder. We speak to Dr. Ponder about the huge team of volunteers that was needed to get help where it was most needed and how Harvey was just the beginning. Since the first time "T1 Team Texas" jumped into action, devastating hurricanes hit Florida, Puerto Rico and the British Virgin Islands, creating even more of a need for people with diabetes in those areas.

Dr. Ponder shares how organizations like Insulin4Life and others got supplies to the area and how T1 Team Texas reached people, some of whom were stranded without power or transportation. He also offers advice to help us prepare for a disaster. And don't miss the very end when he offers the secret to raising healthy kids with T1D.
